In response to the person who said your mother has to be Jewish in order for you to be Jewish: that's according to Judaism itself, not according to independent ideas of ethnicity, cultural identity, or religious practice. If your father is Jewish and your mother isn't, Jewish law doesn't consider you a Jew, but your ethnic heritage is half-Jewish and your cultural identity and religion are up for grabs. (Not to mention, half-Jewish was more than enough for Hitler to go after you.)

This is only true for Jews who belong to the Conservative movement and up (so to speak) like the Orthodox or Hasidic. The Reform and Reconstructionist movements don’t adhere to the matrilineal thing, if you were raised as a Jew then you are a Jew
